The Evolution of Chinese Characters

Introduction
The purpose of this project is to familiarise people with the origin of Chinese characters. The idea and concept is to use 3D objects combined with 2D motion graphics to allow the audience to gain an easier understanding of the evolution of Chinese characters — compared to just going through a less engaging documentary or book on the same subject.

Ink wash painting is one of the main elements of this project as it is a part of traditional Chinese culture, while simultaneously being related to the topic. History records the existence of ancient Sumerian and ancient Egyptian symbols, however, only Chinese characters remain in common use today. There is a total of 9 types of Chinese characters shown in the motion graphics video from the first Chinese character ‘Oracle Bone Script’ to ‘Simplified and Traditional Chinese’.

Problem
Most people are unaware of the history behind the evolution of Chinese characters. Additionally, existing information resources on the subject matter are not visually interesting.
